Almero (Dup) Du Pisani

G Randolf quotes

It was around 1994. I was studying theology at the time when I met Dup. He was a former Iscor employee turned businessman, vending a variety of items for commission.

I was a student, part time woodworker, looking for a place to sell my handiwork to support my family. Dup’s intersection roadside mobile shop was that place.

In the few years that spanned our friendship, we did not only do business. We talked, read Bible passages, discussed issues and prayed together many times.

I found in him a confidant, such an honest God-fearing guy, whose biggest concern was to make an honest living and provide for his family.

If I hadn’t seen him for some time, he would jokingly say he was going to report me to the curatorium, the advisory board overseeing theology students at the church’s faculty.

I was the pastor to him. Dup would always look up to me for some spiritual guidance.

He was my biggest supporter outside of my family circle. He would always remind me of my calling and reprimand me if my prayer visit was overdue.

I felt so privileged when his family asked me to be deliver a tribute at his funeral; honouring  this great friend of mine.

Dup, today I salute you!
